On Sunday, June 26th, in the early morning, South African police were investigating the deaths of about 20 people who attended and were partying at a nightclub in the coastal town of East London to celebrate the end of the winter school exams.
Local newspapers, such as Daily Dispatch, reported that the bodies were strewn across tables and chairs without any visible signs of injuries. Yet, even so, it is still unclear what led to the deaths of the 20 people who were attending the party to celebrate.
The South African Health Department’s spokesperson, Siyanda Manana told others, “At this point, we cannot confirm the cause of death.”
“We are going to conduct autopsies as soon as possible to establish the probable cause of the death,” she added.
Siyakhangela Ndevu, the owner of the nightclub, reported to the scene on Sunday and told local broadcasters, “I am still uncertain about what really happened, but when I was called in the morning I was told the place was too full and that some people were trying to force their way into the tavern,”
“However, we will hear what the police say about the cause of death,” Ndevu added.
