Is Ariarne Titmus Going to Retire Early After the Paris Olympics?

By: Ella Chen

Ariarne Titmus is an Australian swimming superstar who, at the age of just 22 years old, is swimming gold medalist and champion. At the most recent Olympics in Tokyo, she won the 200m and 400m freestyle gold medals as well as posting a time of 3:58.47 (3 m minutes 58 seconds and 47 milliseconds) on the 400 free, surprisingly beating famous American Katie Ledecky.

Despite her big wins, Titmus had recently revealed that she might retire early after the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Titmus has not yet shown a single sign of slowing down to retire from the sport because she booked a place in the Australian team for the next month’s world championships in Japan.

She says, “I think if I went to Paris and won again, certainly there might be a motivational factor. It becomes harder to keep training at the same level when you have essentially achieved everything you wanted to achieve.” Said Ariarne “I plan to continue swimming, but I can’t think beyond Paris. It’s too overwhelming. I can’t possibly think, ’Oh my God, another Olympic cycle already.”

The world will have to wait and see what Ariarne Titmus will do after the Paris Olympics.
