Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy(JFSLA) is a 5-day, 4-night Academy for girls aged 12-18. The Academy focuses on two significant parts, sports, and leadership. The JFSLA’s main aim is to expose many young female athletes to Julie’s passion which was the concept of not only being a leader in sports but also a leader in life.
The Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy recently took place in New Jersey from June 26-30, where female athletes from all over the world came together to enhance leadership and athletics among women. The Academy was led by two-time Olympic soccer medalist Julie Foudy, four-time Olympic basketball medalist Tamika Catchings, and two-time World Lacrosse women’s world champion Jen Adams. This school has let many girls learn skills that are not only sports but also leadership qualities.
Throughout this five-day program, girls do sports drills, listen to motivational classroom talks, and volunteer in the community. This year’s group comprises young female athletes from Brazil, Jordan, Nepal, Bolivia, and many more countries. These athletes are not just immersed in American culture but also have the opportunity to speak up for their country in a presentation.
After the Academy was finished, the athletes return to their homes, hoping to use what they learned here. Rama Farah, a basketball player, summed up her experience in a way sure to please her coaches: “I used to think that to be a leader, you had to be loud and show your presence, but it’s not about that. You can be a taciturn leader and have the most significant impact.
Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy has helped many female athletes achieve their goals and learn valuable skills. The Academy helps motivate many young female athletes to add their voice to what they believe in and always chase their dreams.
