By: Elaine Li

On August 6th Kamala Harris announced that she chose Tim Walz as her running mate in her presidential campaign. Some of her other choices were Pennsylvania governor Josh Sharpiro, Arizona senator Mark Kelly, and Kentucky governor Andy Beshear.

If Harris is elected Walz will be the third vice president from Minnesota, and Harris will be the first woman president. Harris wrote a letter on X saying, “I am proud to announce that I’ve asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate. As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his. It’s great to have him on the team. Now let’s get to work.”

Walz political career began in 2006 when he got a seat in congress, then continued in 2018 he ran for Governor of Minnesota and has been in that position ever since. He also served in the army for 24 years and retired in 2005.

Walz was born in Nebraska, and graduated Chadron State College. He began teaching in Nebraska, then moved to Minnesota and taught football at a high school. He is married to Gwen Walz, a former educator. They have two children, and a rescue dog and cat.

Harris has chosen her campaign partner, but there is still a lot of work to do to win the election.
