With the presidential election approaching, Kamala Harris has been nominated as the democratic candidate against Donald Trump. Donald Trump has made many speeches while Harris has only begun campaigning. She has only just chosen her vice president, Tim Walz.
Harris will achieve many firsts, if she wins. She will be the first female president and the first black and south Asian person to win. She chose Tim Walz, a governor from Minnesota as her running mate. He is a former football coach, a governor, a teacher, and a veteran.
Tim Walz graduated from Chadron State University in 1989 with a degree in education. He began his teaching career at Alliance High School, then moving to Mankato West High School to coach football. While he was there, the team won their first state championship. He then served in the US Army Nation Guard for 24 years. He retired in 2005 as a master sergeant.
He began his political career in 2006 when he beat the Republican party for a seat in Congress in a small district in Minnesota. He became governor of Minnesota in 2018 and has held the position ever since.
When Kamala Harris called Tim Walz, Harris said she liked his work, respects him, that he understands the country, and that his dedication is amazing. Tim Walz likes her enthusiasm. She said that she will unify the country and remind everyone that they are fighting for the future. Who will win? Only the people will decide.
