26-year-old American Katie Ledecky ties with Michel Phelps with their 16th individual World title. She’s the first person to win six medals at the same event at the world championship not only that she’s also the world record holder for seven-times but also Olympic gold medalist and world holder for both 800 and 1,500.
Ledecky has been swimming in the junior Olympics since she was 13 years old.
Thirteen years later, she still has the fast legs she has always had.
After Ledecky was done with the race she said “I’m just always trying to think of new ways to improve. I mean I’ve already got everything turning in my head right now. I kind of wanted to be better than I was tonight,” she said, twirling her right hand beside her right ear, trying to stir up ideas.
She also said, “I’m pretty tough on myself,” she said. “But I think I have found the balance of being tough on myself but also having that grace.
When Ledecky got disqualified earlier in the 200 IM. she said, “You can’t change the rules,” she said. “I got ruled out. It’s just the cards I was dealt with, and I couldn’t do much more than that. So, I just had to carry myself the best I could and channel all my anger and turn a huge negative into a positive.”
