Katie Ledecky flies down the pool, a flurry and strokes and controlled kicks! A wonderful start for her freestyle event!
Ledecky is one of the best freestylers in the world because she’s always looking for ways to improve. Even if she doesn’t have many flaws in her stroke, Ledecky always finds them and corrects them. This is what makes her one of the best.
Ledecky got into the Olympics when she was just 15 and her first event was the 400-meter-freestyle. She set a new American record, 3:59.82, and got silver in the event. Kaite Ledecky, who’s full name is Kathleen Genevieve Ledecky, has made lots of achievements too.
The American 26-year old won gold in the 800-meter freestyle on Saturday with a 8:23:84, making her the only swimmer that ever won gold six times in the same event.
However, being the current world-record holder for the 800 and 1500 meter freestyle wasn’t good enough for her.
In a statement, Ledecky said, “I’m just always trying to think of new ways to improve. I mean I’ve already got everything turning in my head right now. I kind of wanted to be better than I was tonight.”
She also said, “I’m pretty tough on myself. But I think I have found the balance of being tough on myself but also having that grace.”
Katie Ledecky also got gold in the 1500-meter-freestyle, with a 15:37:34. Though she got silver in the 400-meter-freestyle with a 4:00:45, beaten by Ariarne Titmus, Leckecy’s Australian rival by five seconds.
Overall, Katie Ledecky, in the 2023 World Champions, got two gold medals and one silver, which was good enough for her fans but not good enough for herself.
Katie Ledecky, the never quite satisfied swimmer, is off to improve!
