Have you ever given up on something just because you think it’s too hard and you’ll never achieve it? Think again! Liam Hendricks believed himself and no matter how hard it was he achieved his dream in baseball.
So who is Liam Hendricks? What stopped him from being a baseball player? Well, Hendricks was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and he survived it! Stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma only has a 57% chance of survival, but Hendricks fought through it. He had to take many treatments and surgeries to fix it.
And now, crowds and crowds of people are cheering for Liam Hendricks in the bleachers. This was his first game since his disease back in the White Sox team.
But while the MLB (Major League Baseball) community celebrated his return to the mound with the Triple A Charlotte Knights in May, Hendriks was frustrated. His 10.80 ERA (Earned Run Average) through nine innings was much worse than his 2.81 mark in the majors last season. It seemed as if Hendricks had gotten worse!
Hendricks wasn’t happy at this and will do whatever he can to return to All-Star form he was before. Maybe battling cancer had affected his career after all.
Hendricks trained harder. He eventually became the amazing pitcher and batter he was again. Eventually he made his ERA improve to 1.80.
Did this inspire you to try harder?
