“Anticipation built in Chicago’s South Side as 23,599 fans rose to their feet, awaiting the return of a true fighter. The scoreboard illuminated the name of the White Sox’s beloved closer, Liam Hendriks, for the first time in the 2023 season. Five months after his diagnosis of stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Hendriks emerged a survivor.” USA Sports Today writes.
Liam Hendrik is a baseball player diagnosed with type four non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This means cancer has spread to organs external to the lymphatic system. Liam Hendriks has fought cancer, made a recovery, and is now back on the field. He only needed one month to recover. His rapid return was because he kept moving during his battle with cancer. For example, “He walked to get his coffee. He walked his dogs.” He stayed in shape, which helped him overcome his battle with cancer. Liam Hendriks looks like he could do other things besides baseball. He’s not just a baseball star; he’s an inspiration. Liam Hendriks showed strength and resilience as he inspired the baseball world and beyond by returning to the field.
