Despite the fact that a view of one of England’s most popular soccer teams was not even guaranteed, the brief journey to the bus was welcomed by thousands of eager fans. Liverpool arrived in Bangkok one day after Manchester United, who similarly were greeted with similar energy.
As the 37-man squad marched from the VIP room to the bus, as many as 1000 people gathered to watch them. Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, pushed to the front and said “Thank you very much for the really warm welcome we received already. It’s my first proper time in Thailand and I’ve heard so many good things about it.”
Later, team captain Jordan Henderson, vice-captain James Milner, and Klopp attended a chaotic press conference. Enthusiastic fans and media swarmed the barriers that had been set up.
Klopp went on to say “We look forward to the game obviously, and to have some time to spend in the city. We are here for all of you and we hope we can have a good time together.”
Due to the pandemic, Liverpool had not scheduled a tour since 2019, undoubtedly adding to the excitement level. Liverpool will be taking on rival Manchester United in the Rajamangala Stadium. Their next stop will be Singapore, to take on Crystal Palace on Friday.
