Lost Tortoise Rescued From Train Tracks

By: Emma Xing

This tortoise went on an entire adventure when he got lost. Solomon was found on the train tracks while he was trying to find his owner again. Four trains were delayed when Solomon was found.

Trains between Ascot, Berkshire and Bagshot, Surrey were disrupted at 6 PM on Friday evening. The train driver stopped the trains as soon as he saw Solomon on the tracks
Engineers rescued Solomon, moved him to safety, and even gave him a ride on the train.

“He has been retrieved and is now on his way home. Network Rail and SWR staff moved the tortoise to a position of safety on the platform, including a short ride on the train itself,” South Western Railway (SWR) said. “Its owner collected it from the station later that evening, and, as far as we are aware, (the tortoise) was unharmed.”

An hour later, services returned back to normal and trains were running again.

Even though Solomon returned perfectly safe and happy, many pet owners are keeping a much closer eye on their pets to make sure they don’t end up on the train tracks.

“While we are delighted that this story has a happy ending and can reassure passengers that our ‘everyone home safe, every day’ ambitions extend to pets, we must remind everyone that the railway is dangerous,” said a spokesperson from Network Rail.

“We also ask that our lineside neighbors ensure that their fencing is secure to prevent human, or animal incursions onto the track,” said another spokesperson.
