Marta, who is from Brazil’s soccer team, is one of the most well-known soccer players. She is now 37 years old and is retiring from her international soccer career.
Brazil was out of the Women’s World Cup after a 0-0 draw with Jamaica on August 2. That marked the sixth and final World Cup that Marta has played in.
The result was worse than what the team was hoping for. Brazil was hoping to win 2023’s world cup to bring home for Marta since Marta is retiring.
Marta played in her first World Cup at the age of 17. She holds a scoring record of 17 goals in both women’s and men’s soccer. She has been FIFA’s Player of the Year 6 times and has earned two silver Olympic Medals.
She has also scored in every other World Cup tournament except this one. In an interview after Brazil’s loss, Marta said that even her worst nightmares didn’t have a World Cup like this.
Although this World Cup is the last that she is participating in, Marta says that she will play club soccer and will play for the Orlando Pride in the NWSL.
Martha hopes that Brazil’s soccer team will continue to receive support and their young talented players will keep improving.
Many will mourn the retirement of this ambitious and talented player.
