Writing Lab #3: Concise Sentences
Class Syllabus – Grades 6-8
Objective: Students will be able to implement best practices in order to make their writing more concise and clear.
Essential Questions:
- What is a concise sentence?
- How do we create concise sentences?
- Why are concise sentences important?
Enduring Understandings:
- A concise sentence is a sentence that has a clear subject, verb, and complement without extra details that muddle meaning.
- Concise sentences are created by using the active voice, parallel structure, reducing wordy phrases, eliminating obvious information, and reducing prepositional phrases.
- Concise sentences are important because they are the best and easiest way to express oneself clearly.
