Writing Lab #6: Consistent Verb Tenses
Class Syllabus – Grades 6-8
Objective: Students will be able to identify when to use particular verb tenses and how to utilize them consistently in their writing.
Essential Questions:
- What is a verb tense?
- What types of verb tenses should be used in particular situations?
- Why do we need to maintain consistent verb tense?
Enduring Understandings:
- Verb tenses are changes or additions to verbs to show when the action took place.
- Present tense is used to indicate an action that occurs in the now.
- Past tense is used to indicate an action that has already happened.
- Future tense is used to indicate an action that will happen.
Standards:
Grade 6: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.6.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. Grade 7: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.7.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. Grade 8: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.8.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
