On June 2, 2024, 62-year-old Claudia Sheinbaum became the first female President in Mexico, and will take office on October 1, 2024. She also became the first person with Jewish heritage to lead this primary Catholic nation. She has shown women worldwide that men and women are all equal, and everyone can lead a country, even if you are a woman.
Sheinbaum will face many challenges on her journey to becoming president. One of the most concerning is the rising violence in Mexico. To fix this problem she has decided to increase the number of police officers and install security cameras across the country. As a former climate scientist, Sheinbaum is also working to reduce the nation’s fossil fuels by fifty percent in the next six years. She is working to achieve this by investing a lot of money in green energy projects and improving Mexico’s mass transit systems.
The President-elect of Mexico has most recently served as head of government in Mexico City, but she is not a career politician. Instead, she took a different path by becoming a climate scientist, and graduated with a PhD in engineering. Sheinbaum has also dedicated much of her work to advocating for the transition from fossil fuels to clean and usable energy sources.
Claudia Sheinbaum has made a great difference in her country and worldwide. She has inspired many women to believe that gender equality is important, and is something more people should consider when making decisions.
