Families went bananas for the minion movie. Minions: The Rise of Gru has brought an estimated amount of $108.5 million dollars in ticket sales from 4,391 screens in North America. By the end of Fourth of July, Universal Pictures had estimated $127.9 million dollars would be made.

This film was one of the biggest ones for the Fourth of July, beating the old record Transformers: Dark of the Moon with 115.9 million.

“It’s a tremendous debut,” said Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic distribution. “It’s playing very broadly across North America. Every single market is doing extraordinarily well.”

Another very successful film from Universal Pictures is Sing 2 which made 406 million since it was broadcasted in December 2021, and The Bad Guys which made 243 million.

Minions: The rise of Gru was delayed for two years because of the pandemic. It was a sequel to Despicable Me.

Universal and Illumination had big success on all five minion movies and has made 3.7 billion since 2010.

The voice cast features Steve Carell as Gru, Alan Arkin, Michelle Yeoh and Julie Andrews as Gru’s mom. Critics were mixed to reviews, but most audiences were more enthusiastic, giving the Gru origin story by 72% on Rotten Tomatoes.
