Museum in Bristol Displays Giant Edible Chocolate Button

By: Selena Sun

A giant edible chocolate button is on display at the Aerospace Museum in Filton. This mega-sized chocolate is part of a series of artwork you can eat called Edible Histories. The giant chocolate is part of a celebration to mark 650 years since King Edward III awarded the city of Bristol its royal charter, granting it special rights.

The chocolate button weighs about 18 kg or the weight of an adult dog. The sculpture has a diameter of 1 meter or 3.2 feet.

The chocolate button is one of five chocolate carvings that have been chosen to be sculpted. Some other carvings include a ship’s wheel, a replica of Concorde, a high-speed plane, and two more are still to be announced.

According to the BBC, “The five carvings will be brought together in October, and 10 lucky people will be chosen to break them using specially designed hammers. They’ll be the first to taste the chocolate and give it out to other visitors who turn up to watch the event. Luke Jerram, the artist in charge of the chocolate project, and his team will then send the rest of the chocolate to local food banks in Bristol.”
