When I grow up, I want to be president of the United States, not just for my good, but also for my country and the world.
After World War II, the U.S was one of the only two superpowers of the world (the other being the Soviet Union). Now, many more countries are becoming competitive and are trying to seize our high profile. I would like to give all my effort into making the U.S stand out.
If my dream ever came true, I would do so many things–building more shelters for natural disasters like tornados, protecting endangered animals, and making better/more safety laws and then making sure my people followed them. I’m only nine, so I don’t know exactly how I should carry out these plans, although I am working on solutions. I feel a special responsibility to make my country even better than it already is, and worry what we might become without someone to properly lead it (don’t get me wrong, America is a great country). I‘ve got so many ideas, you should know I’m serious about my future career.
Not everyone around me takes my dream as seriously as I do. Those people aren’t really encouraging. When I was still a three-year-old I went to a party and a teacher there asked us preschoolers what we want to be when we grew up. I immediately yelled out, “I want to be president of the United States!”, and he laughed at me (yes, laughed at a poor little three-year-old). He probably wasn’t trying to be mean; I might have sounded cute to him for wanting something so big. Either way little Max had felt embarrassed for dreaming that big. I haven’t talked about my dream for years until I met my second grade teacher, Mrs. Murphy.
When Mrs. Murphy asked us to write about our dream, I was so ready to write a fake dream. My parents suggested I open up to my teacher. I did, and I’m glad I did. Mrs. Murphy was one of the people who were encouraging. She said “Max, you are a little kid with a big heart, and remember, you can never dream too big! You’ve got my vote!”
Along the way of pursuing your dream, some may understand, some may not; some may be supporting, some may not. But no matter what it takes, try to be positive and confidant all the time. Will you be brave enough to grow with your dream? I know I will! No matter what happens, I will always be brave enough to grow with my already massive dream.
