Your eyes meeting mine were tender
Your arms holding mine were safe
Your “goodnight” made my heart flutter
But I hesitated
Was I scared to be too eager?
Was I scared to be too plain?
Why did I ever think
the truth was something to be tamed?
Now I know this silence well
It was never at all your fault
You came too close to me
and that made me afraid
I should have opened my heart for you
You’d already had it in your hand
But it was a sealed fortress that not even
I could navigate
I only wish
I had the key.
