One of their best players, Juan Soto, has rejected the Nationals 15-year, $440 million contract. Because of that, the Nationals are thinking of trading him.
Currently, the Washington Nationals are sitting at the bottom of the entire league, with a record of 31 wins and 63 losses. Out of their last ten games, they have only won one.
“For me, this is the team I’ve been [with] since what, 2015?” Soto said. “I’ve been with this team and I feel good with it. When I get to know the city more, it feels great. Why should I need to change?” Because the Nats are thinking of trading him, he feels like he shouldn’t need to.
23-year-old Juan Soto will become a free agent in 2024, meaning the Nationals can keep him for three seasons (including this one).
Without Soto, the Nationals have really big problems, and they might even be considered the worst team ever.
The league’s highest-paid player, Mike Trout has an AAV (Average Annual Value) of $36 million. Juan Soto’s AAV is $29.6 Million, which places him in 20th place for the highest AAV.
Juan Soto is the only player on the Nationals that had made the All-Star Game which was this Monday, and will also be participating in the 2022 Home-run Derby.
Juan Soto is an All-Star level player, and many teams want him on their team. The Nationals are doing anything they can to keep their best player, but he will soon become a free agent and have a choice to leave the team.
Soto has been talking to many agents that have been telling him where he should go. His intentions however are completely sealed from the public.
In the end, Soto is the team’s best player, and if he leaves, the team will be in big trouble, with no good players.
