Near the End of Summer School (torture)

By: Eric Zheng

Have you ever felt like you’re trapped in summer school? Having to do work every day, the only time you have free time is during weekends. You may not have it, but many people experience summer school, including me.

The reason why I have summer school is because my mom thinks I am a good student, and if I start playing in the summer, my mom is afraid I might start ignoring work once I’m in middle school, and instead play games all day. My mom also wants me to have summer school because middle school is a big year. There will be more work and I will have no time to do other stuff. She wants me to get used to the work and not hesitate when I see the homework and class work. She believes that I will get a good head start on the year because I’ve been practicing many 6th grade subjects.

I feel very tortured because I have to do work every day, and I mostly have no free time because I also have to take care of my little brother once I’m done with my work. Some of the classes I have been taking are Writing, Math, and ELA. Writing class goes from 9:30 to 11:30, and math goes from 1:30 to 2:25. Now you might be asking, “But you have a 2-hour break!” Well technically yes, but I have to eat lunch and still help my mom do the chores. ELA continues from 2:35 to 3:30. This goes from Monday-Thursday, and I have a big homework load on Fridays.

There’s also daily writing; my mom signed me up for this course called EWJ and I usually have to write a full essay or just a few paragraphs. The remote class is already enough, and my mom still has to add to it. Good news for me that it is ending soon; this is my last week of writing essays and it will definitely drop my stress a lot.

Those are my summer school classes and why I’m glad that it’s finally almost over. Would you feel glad that your summer school is coming to an end?
