Need for help is critical in Afghanistan after terrifying earthquake

By: Bonnie Wang

After a huge earthquake that is responsible for over 700 deaths hit Afghanistan on June 22nd, people were left with grieving losses, lack of shelter, food, clean water, and chances of surviving.

However, many people noticed this deadly earthquake and started to help. Trucks took a risk driving up the dangerous mountains and spit back out. Hospitals were being flooded with injured and sick patients.

An article in The New York Times states that “Houses that the Afghanistan’s people lived in were very vulnerable since many were made out of wood or even mud.”

Many people barely made enough to feed their families, so there was no way they could afford a strong, decent house.

After citizens of the earthquake found the remaining number of survivors, the aid providers turned their attention to find more food and clean water. People are still recovering in the hospitals. The financial impact is a very large number since again, many make barely enough to feed their families.

Although many people are suffering, “America is cautious about what they contribute.” The Taliban have been accused of not doing what they say. Therefore, Americans are trying to help the people actually mentally, physically, and financially scared more than the Taliban, just in case they use the aid for “unintended reasons.”
