Oct. 18th 2022: Earthlings, Meet Venus (Gr. 6-8)

In “Earthlings: Meet Venus,” we learn interesting facts about a planet, Venus, other than our own and the integral role it plays in the solar system as well as in our culture. After you re-read, consider the following:

  • Astronomers have recently made some interesting discoveries about Mars! Further your knowledge of the planets in our solar system by reviewing what they found and writing a short informative article highlighting what you have learned: NASA’s Perseverance Makes New Discoveries in Mars’ Jezero Crater – NASA Mars Exploration
  • The article mentions that Ray Bradbury’s “All Summer in a Day” was based upon hypotheses of what life on Venus would look like. Read the story and write a response, which explains Bradbury’s perspective on what life would be like in an extraterrestrial home.
  • Get creative! Write a short story about what life would be like on Venus. Make sure you include accurate details about the planet that you have learned from the article.
  • Why is it important to learn about the planets in our solar system? How can we take this knowledge and apply it to our own lives? Think especially about the Earth – and our dire need to take action to save it.
