OKC Thunder Will Be an “Entertaining” Team to Watch This Season

By: Lucas Chi

Holmgren dashes up the court, with defenders swarming him. He drives up for the layup, and no-look passes it to Wiggins! He goes into the corner, takes a three, and he makes it! this was one of the many great plays that the OKC Thunder have made this season. Although they were still down by a few points, the crowd was going wild.

The Oklahoma City Thunder aren’t going to be the best team this season, they still have many young talents making flashy plays which gives them a high entertaining value.

Some notable examples of these types of players include rookie Chet Holmgren, Josh Giddey, and Shai Gilgeous Alexander. In the Thunder’s recent victory against the Orlando Magic, Chet Holmgren led the team in scoring with 16 points. Because an NBA Summer League game only lasts 40 minutes long compared to a 48-minute regulation NBA game, the 16 points that Holmgren scored are even more impressive.

Chet Holmgren leads the team in many stats averaging 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game. Josh Giddey is right behind him in points averaging 13 per game, as well as leading the team with 8 assists per game. His teammate Josh Giddey said “I mean, he does everything on both sides of the floor. He can stretch the floor, knock down threes, plays at the rim, can play in the mid-range. On the defensive end protects the rim like I’ve never seen before. So I know he’s got my back on that end, great guy to play with.”

Although the game was low scoring, the team had made many entertaining moves, fakes, and shots. In another game that the Thunder had played against the Houston Rockets, Aaron Wiggins had made many dunks and plays that made the crowd go wild.

Because of these jazzy plays, the Thunder will be considered an “entertaining” team to watch, as opposed to teams such as the Golden State Warriors or the Boston Celtics that are known for their skill and championships won.

Even though they are an “entertaining” team, they still have good players like Holmgren.

The Thunder’s defense was also very powerful. The team had a total of 8 steals and 5 blocks in the Orlando Magic game.

As the NBA Summer League goes on, we can expect many plays from the Oklahoma City Thunder, but they have a small chance to reach the top of the league.
