The famous artist Vincent Van Gogh was often low on money. When that happened, he was selling most of his paintings. One thing is, most of his paintings that he failed to sell were covered up and lost. Now, one of the paintings has been discovered as a self-portrait.
“Moments like this are incredibly rare,” a senior curator of French related art named Frances Fowle said in one of his statements. “We have discovered an unknown work by Vincent van Gogh, one of the most important and popular artists in the world.”
The self-portrait was not an accurate self-portrait. The painting was revealed by an X-ray. As I said, the self-portrait was not an accurate portrait, the painting was not about himself. The painting was called the “Head of a Peasant Woman.”
“Hidden from view for over a century, the self-portrait is on the back of the canvas with Head of a Peasant Woman and is covered by layers of glue and cardboard,” the museum said as they studied the painting from the X-ray on Thursday.
Some experts that studied the painting thought that some materials that were used on the painting was applied in the 20th century.
Although the portrait is covered in layers, it dose not mean you can’t see it. The X-ray image shows an image of the painting. It is also visible with a lightbox.
