The International Paralympics Committee (IPC) has announced that Para-climbing will be the newest sport added to the Paralympics in Los Angeles. “Para-climbing is a fast-paced, exhilarating sport that I am sure will attract new audiences to the Paralympic Games,” said IPC president Andrew Parsons to BBC News.
Now the 2028 games will have 23 awesome, fun challenges. The idea to add Para-climbing was inspired by the addition of climbing to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The organizing committee of each Paralympic Games has the opportunity to put forward one or more additional events if they want to. This choice will either be rejected or confirmed by the IPC. The LA2028 committee had to choose whether to put forward Para-climbing or Para-surfing to the IPC, as they are both not yet a part to the Paralympics.
Para-climbing is the fifth new sport added to the Paralympics in the last 12 years. All in all, Para-climbing is sure to attract more audiences.
