With the Summer Olympic Games in action, athletes from all around the world will be competing in what is often called the greatest show on earth.
Simone Biles – Gymnastics
Representing the USA’s gymnastic team is none other than Simone Biles, often called the greatest athlete of all time.
She has won a total of 7 medals this year; 4 Olympic gold medals, 2 silver, and 1 bronze.
Known for her consistency and complexity, Biles has set a number of records through her career. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, she became the first female U.S. gymnast to receive 4 gold medals at a single Games.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce – Athletics
Possibly the most smiley Olympian you’ll come across is Jamaican athlete, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
Many say she is one of the best female sprinters in the world– and possibly also the smallest, at just 5 feet tall.
Pryce has 3 gold medals, and is determined to pick up one more this year.
Her career spans over 2 decades, from late 2020’s to present. However, this is going to be her last year at the Olympic Games.
Katie Ledecky – Swimming
Another appearance at the Summer Olympics is Katie Ledecky.
She has won four medals at the Games; 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze.
Ledecky is a World Record holder and is recognized as the face of American swimming.
She participated in the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle events!
The Summer Olympics end August 11th, but there are many more upcoming Games that will be held– and so the excitement will continue!
