People Are Using AI Generated Video Characters to Tell Stories

By: Avery Lin

Content creators on TikTok and Instagram are starting to use AI generated video characters to tell real or absurd stories. AI stands for artificial intelligence. People can use AI to make a fake digital person who can speak in their voice.

You could be watching TikTok and see someone tell a story on your screen. That person may look and talk like a normal person but move in a way that is inhuman or stay totally still.

Alisha Arora has seen this in her TikTok feed. She says that she saw a basketball player telling his story. Arora is a 17-year-old TikToker who has interned with AI labs at MIT.

“I actually thought it was real,” Arora said in an interview. “It’s hard to draw the line between what’s real and what’s fake.”

Indeed, many AI pictures are very realistic, and cause people to think they’re actual human beings. AI generated content is gaining popularity. When opening up Instagram or TikTok, you may see your whole feed getting overrun by AI-generated pictures.

Although AI can generate fake news, companies also use it to figure out what’s real and what’s fake. Companies can use AI to filter out the fake news and harmful content for people watching social media.

AI storytelling videos use moving pictures that look and sound like an actual person is talking. Everybody can create an AI person. It is possible to create a video of a fake child talking about their story in a child’s voice in just a few minutes.

If you don’t want to see something, don’t watch it. Skip it and click not interested. That way, TikTok and Instagram will adjust your feed to show videos you seem to like. Arora has tried this herself and was able to watch videos she prefers.
