At a nightclub in Johannesburg, there were more than 20 mysterious deaths. Everyone dead was young, and the cause of the deaths is unknown. All the corpses were laid on the tables and chairs. There were no visible injuries.
The police are trying to find evidence about what happened to know how they most likely died. Police Minister Bheki Cele was expected to investigate the scene on Sunday morning. People took blood samples from the survivors, so they could collect some evidence.
Even though the cause of the deaths remains unanswered, a spokesperson said that it could have been something inhaled or consumed. It is described as being choked by something that tasted like tear gas or even pepper spray. The deaths have soured South Africa’s youth month, a celebration of the nation’s youth.
No one has been accused of killing the teenagers. The youngest victim was only 13 years old. South Africa’s drinking age restriction is 18. That means that they may have been underage drinking.
The owner of the club told a broadcaster that he had been called to the scene in the morning. He said: “I am still uncertain about what really happened, but when I was called in the morning I was told the place was too full and that some people were trying to force their way into the tavern,”.
Whether the teenagers were drinking or not, the question is: “Did someone kill them, or did they kill themselves?”
