Pumpkin and the Ghost

By: Yimo Liu

In a magical land far beyond your dreams, there was another world called the World of Sparkles. In this land, everyone was happy. Nobody complained about anything except two friends. They were Pumpkin the little kitty and Trixie the ghost.

Pumpkin was a very adventurous kitty. Her friend, Trixie, was an old ghost. She used to be a kitten, but when she died, she turned into a ghost. The two friends always accompanied each other.

One night, Pumpkin and Trixie stayed up late. “Hey Trixie,” Pumpkin said. “Do you hear any weird noises?”

“Yes,” Trixie answered,” my excellent hearing allows me to hear some whooshing noises.”

“What does that mean, Trixie?” Pumpkin asked curiously.

“That means there are some evil ghosts around. They want to harm our city,” Trixie replied. “Which is horrible. Evil ghosts have dark magic in them while good ghosts don’t. They can soon turn us into evil ghosts. We have to stop them immediately!”

Pumpkin gave Trixie her heroic face. Trixie laughed. “Before we stop the bad guys, I’m gonna teach you everything about ghosts!” she said.

The friends spent 2 more hours studying. “All right,” Trixie said. “There is one advantage we have. The evil ghosts only appear at night. They fade away once the sun comes out.”

“Thank you for teaching me!” Pumpkin replied. “Now we can defeat the bad guys!”

Trixie smiled. She could never stop this excited little kitty from being a hero. “The sun’s up now,” Trixie remarked. “We still have some time to rest and get ready.”

Pumpkin’s face fell, but she stayed still. For the rest of the day, the friends studied all they could about ghosts. At 8 o’clock, Pumpkin tied on a small black cape. She added a mask. “Uh, what’s that for?” Trixie asked.

“My super-hero costume,” Pumpkin answered.

When Trixie’s watch striked 9:30 p.m., the two friends sneaked into the dark. “Always remember that evil ghosts are afraid of the light,” Trixie reminded Pumpkin. “Follow our plan, so that we can save the city!”

Pumpkin nodded and showed Trixie the mirror she had promised to bring. She then sneaked into the dark, her black cape covering her golden fur. Suddenly, the air became cold, and the whooshing sound came again. An evil ghost floated by. Pumpkin bolted forward and pointed the mirror into the ghost’s eyes. The ghost screamed and faded away. The other ghosts weren’t that lucky. They ducked everywhere. Pumpkin panted and panted as she chased the ghosts. Then a brave evil ghost came and said: “Hey little cat. How about you kill all the other evil ghosts and spare my life? I promise I’ll never harm you ever again.”

“Why should I listen to you?”Pumpkin asked.

“Just say yes!” Trixie whispered. “I know this ghost! He was a cursed good ghost!”

“Fine,” Pumpkin agreed. “I agree with you, random ghost.”

The ghost nodded. “I granted your wish,” he replied. “The evil ghosts are gone. You also helped me grant my own wish. Once the evil ghosts are gone, the curse on me is broken. You helped a lot of people today, Pumpkin!”

Pumpkin smiled. “Thank you.”

After this incident, no ghosts ever haunted anyone again. Everyone lived happily with no complaints anymore.
