Objective: Students will be able to determine the meanings of complex words by utilizing context clues
Essential Questions:
- How do context clues help us to figure out the meaning of unknown words?
- How can a greater vocabulary knowledge help us to read more difficult texts?
Enduring Understandings:
- Context clues are hints found within a sentence, paragraph, or passage that a reader can use to understand the meanings of new or unfamiliar words.
- Becoming familiar with different types of context clues can help you to more efficiently figure out the definition of a word.
- A greater vocabulary knowledge can help readers to access texts that may be above their reading level because they will be better able to comprehend.
