Reading Lab #2: Vocabulary Knowledge (Gr. 6-8)

Our reading labs last week went so well! We received great feedback from our students, and we are so excited to present the next lab in our series on Vocabulary Knowledge. To register, click this link: https://tinyurl.com/3n7j4few

Objective: Students will be able to determine the meanings of complex words by utilizing morphemes.

Essential Questions:

  1. How does breaking down the morphemes of unknown words help us to uncover their meaning?
  2. How can a greater vocabulary knowledge help us to read more complex texts?

Enduring Understandings:

  1. Becoming familiar with various morphemes (prefixes, suffixes, and root words) can help readers to break down larger words into more manageable chunks to understand their meaning.
  2. A greater vocabulary knowledge can help readers to access texts that may be above their reading level because they will be better able to comprehend.
