Reading Wonder Wednesday: Let’s wonder about….Somebody Wanted But So!

Reviewing reading comprehension skills with your child can be tricky. How can you balance making sure that your child understands a text without completely inundating them with constant questions?

There are more engaging, exciting, and efficient ways to do this.

One of these is using the SWBS Strategy, which is otherwise known as the Somebody Wanted But So tool. This helps your child determine who the text is about, what their motivation is, the main conflict in the story, and then, the final solution or lesson in a matter of minutes.

It’s a clear cut, easy way to determine if your child fully grasps the meaning and impact of what they have read. You can also utilize this while your child watches movies, plays video games, or resolves conflicts. It’s a great way to help them communicate their ideas concisely as well.
