Review of Inside Out 2

By: Elaine Xu

Have you ever watched Inside Out or Inside Out 2 before? While I’ve only watched the first one, here, I will review Inside Out 2.

In the movie Inside Out 2, Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, is a wild orange creature with messy hair who arrives at Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind. He overreacts to almost everything, so the other emotions don’t like him at all.

Joy, voiced by Amy Poehler, walks into the room that Anxiety is in and finds out that he is directing a room full of workers to draw pictures of everything that could go wrong in Riley’s big hockey match the next day. The bad thoughts keep the girl awake, and she tosses and turns at each bad thought in her sleep.

The movie’s director, Kelsey Mann, thought of this exciting scene because he sometimes experiences that, too. He explains, “I always envisioned this being a movie about anxiety taking over, and was reflecting on my own life and how my anxiety does that in me.” This quote shows that, sometimes, Mr. Mann is anxious about some things in his life, just like how Riley is in the movie.

As things become overwhelming, Joy tries to stop Anxiety’s plan and begins to draw positive pictures to send to Riley to make her feel better. Then, she tells the other workers in the room to also draw happy pictures for Riley.

Slowly, all the bad thoughts on the screen turn into happy thoughts. Then, a worker yells, “PILLOW FIGHT!!!” and everyone starts having lots of fun instead of drawing bad things.
