The new Inside Out 2 movie has just come out and it introduces a lot of new emotions as Riley is going through puberty. In the beginning, it shows Riley’s 13th birthday and the new emotions which are Anxiety(voiced by Maya Hawke), Envy(voiced by Ayo Edebiri), Boredom(voiced by Adele Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment(voiced by Paul Hauser). In one scene, Joy finds another part of Riley’s imagination and finds out that Anxiety is using mind workers to have Riley have these bad thoughts by using what the mind workers drew and making Riley think those thoughts. Immediately, Joy takes one of the mind worker’s drawing spaces and draws some happy thoughts. After that, Joy managed to convince all the workers that if they draw happy drawings, Riley will have a better life. After that, they started breaking everything and started to have a lot of fun and destroy almost everything. This is the turning point in the movie because all the workers were convinced by Joy. In another scene when Joy first meets Anxiety, she is very surprised because a lot of new emotions just appeared in the main control room. Anxiety promised that she will make Riley have a great future, but Anxiety was the one that is making Riley have all those bad thoughts. All the other new emotions also aren’t helping with Riley’s emotions because Riley is having new thoughts and imaginations that are making her more uncomfortable. In one scene, Embarrassment held the original emotions and Joy told him he can “bottle them up,” but Embarrassment actually just bottled them up.
Anxiety started making a plan called “the new Riley,” and having her have bad thoughts about what might happen. But Joy also has ways to stop Anxiety, and the thoughts that Riley has are just shifting back and forth between bad and good thoughts. Riley experiences worryness and nervousness as she discovers more about the world and is about to enter high school. Anxiety uses this opportunity to make her have these bad thoughts. She attempts to put the emotion of excitement to the back of her mind and put the worryness and nervousness in the core memory. In the end Joy and Sadness works together to build a new core memory after Anxiety disrupts the control center. The most used line in this movie is when Riley keeps repeating, “I am a good person.” In the original Inside Out you can see Riley going through her childhood and all the happy and sad memories that she had. But in the new Inside Out 2 Riley suddenly has these 4 new emotions and is changing the way she thinks and acts.
Movie creator’s thoughts
As the movie director, Kelsey Mann, said in the scene when Joy and the old emotions find the control room that Anxiety has taken over, it is based on his imaginations when he was going through puberty, and he always thought about what could go wrong in the next few days. When Joy stands up and gives a speech about how the happy emotions could change how Riley acts. He said that this scene is what some of the movie maker’s thought about how some workers might stand up for themselves to share a thought about the company. Mann also says that this movie is based on the makers’ thoughts and emotions when they were going through puberty.
This movie is now in theaters from June 14, 2024 to July 2, 2024 with exceptions from some theaters.
