Ridiculous things that have happened on Kpop stages

By: Tina Wu

Many people believe that Kpop artists have it easy onstage. In reality, it is the complete opposite. The artists not only have to sing or rap, they also have to dance difficult choreographed moves while doing that singing or rapping. They also get harassed in many unthinkable ways.

Taeyeon from SNSD got kidnapped

Back in April of 2011, Taeyeon, the leader of the girl group SNSD, almost got kidnapped onstage while preforming Run Devil Run. I actually have respect for the kidnapper’s ability to get past backstage security, and the wits it took to grab someone in front of millions of people. Though this was 11 years ago, it still dwells in the minds of us Kpop fans.

Female fan of Big Bang went up to their leader and hugged him without letting go

Big Bang is considered the OG of Kpop. They are the ones that started the concept of “light sticks.” Lightsticks are essentially just custom-made glow sticks that are powered by batteries. That achievement, however, cannot shield them from crazy fans. This incident happened when a female fan, who looked drunk, seemed like she was going to kiss G-dragon. A staff member tried to drag them apart. After many tries, and much effort from G-dragon, they were separated. Again, I have respect for this woman’s ability to get past security, even though she was “drunk.”

BTS’ Jin gets a ‘bra’ thrown at him

A few years ago, BTS went on tour. One of their stops was in the Philippines. On multiple occasions an item which looked like a padded pushup bra was thrown at Jin. Jin then give a death glare which and claimed the throw “almost kill” him. This has happened to many other artists, including EXO, another boy group. I don’t know what the “fan” expected? Did they want them to kiss it, or keep it under their pillow? Throwing undergarments at people, especially in public is an extremely disgusting action. Even if it wasn’t a bra, throwing items at artists’ faces while they are singing is equally unacceptable.
