Roller coaster riders rescued from 205-foot drop amid mechanical issues

A record breaking roller coaster-the Magnum XL- 2000 froze at the top of a 205-foot drop last tuesday. A dozen people were forced to stay away from the ride after the incident occurred at the Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio.

The spokesperson in charge of this park told Fox News Digital that this incident was just a “standard ride stoppage” triggered by a “check engine light” situation. The ride till now has still not restarted.

People who passed by posted photos on social media of the staff members leading the passengers down to safety. Thankfully, all passengers were uninjured.

When it opened in 1989, it was the tallest, fastest, and steepest complete-circuit roller coaster in the world as well as the first hyper coaster– a roller coaster that exceeds 200 feet (61 m) in height. More than 40 million people had ridden Magnum by 2009.

The magnum XL-200 was awarded a guiness world record for the world’s tallest roller coaster when it debuted in 1989. Cedar Point calls themself the roller coaster capital of the world after they beated its own record twice.

“If it’s a clear day, you might be able to see the coast of Canada on the horizon,” Cedar Point claims on its website.
