“Thirteen Lives” is a survival film, which features an 18-day effort to rescue 12 soccer players and their coach from Thailand’s Tham Luang cave in 2018. The movie follows actor Viggo Mortenson, who plays Rick Stanton, and Colin Farrell, who plays John Volanthen. Both Stanton and Farrell led the Thai’s Navy Seals, who brought the players and their coach to safety.

The soccer team went to the cave after soccer practice. They planned to explore the cave for a short period of time. However, they got trapped inside by raising water caused by an expected down pour outside. The point where the boys became stranded was about 4 km from the entrance and 800–1,000 meters below the top of the mountain. The gushing water filling up the path way made the rescuing effort extremely challenging. The soccer players were forced to wait until the men were able to rescue them.

Throughout the rescue effort, two SEALS died. One SEAL, Saman Kunan passed away due to his running out of oxygen. The other SEAL, Beirut Pakbara, died from an infection he had 17 months before the mission.

The movie is well accepted by the audience, and it received 88% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
