Russian soldiers leave loved ones crying and begging at home as they go to war

By: Bryan Li

A lot of today’s news surrounds the ongoing Russian-Ukranian War. Most articles focus the devastation occurring on Ukraine’s side, but there is a lot to also discuss on what is going on within Russia.

Citizens are being brainwashed to think that Nazis are stationed around Ukraine, and television, news, and other online sources are being shut down everywhere to make sure outside sources cannot reach Russians’ minds. Many young men are more than willing to fight against “Nazis”, which the Russian officials have denoted as the Ukrainians.

Yevgeny Chubarin was a 24-year-old stone-factory worker who was given an AK-47 to join the Russian army. A day after he left his family, he was killed in battle. 59-year-old pilot by the name of Vladimir Krot passed away during a training flight preparing for the war.

Russian families are weeping and begging their sons to not join the war, but one by one they march towards Ukraine to the end. “It will never be easier,” writes Dmitry Shkrebets, whose son was killed when Ukrainian missiles sunk his ship, “There will never be true joy. We will never be the same again. We have become different, we have become more unhappy, but also stronger, tougher. We no longer fear even those who should be feared.”

Russian news outlets have stated 5,185 Russian lives lost since the start of the war, but American and British agencies estimate over 15,000.

Sergei Dustin, whose son in law was killed, was angry at Russian leaders at why Russian men were dying. He described the war as a “massacre started by crazy old men who think they are great geopoliticians and super strategists, incapable, in fact, of anything but destruction, threats against the world, puffing out their cheeks and endless lies,”

“Oh god, please stop this war. How many of our guys can die?” a Russian woman said, “My soul is torn from pain. I don’t know how to accept this, survive and live with it.”
