Scientists are surprised after they have discovered the
Earth has been spinning faster.
On the 29th of June, instead of taking 24 hours, the Earth’s rotation took 1.59 milliseconds less.
Graham Jones, an astrophysicist stated via timeanddate.com, “If Earth’s fast rotation continues, it could lead to the introduction of the first-ever negative leap second.”
He continued, “A negative leap second would mean that our clocks skip on second, which could potentially create problems for IT systems.”
Dr Leonid Zotov told timeanddate.com that there is a 70% chance that the Earth’s fast speed has already reached its peak, however there is no way to confirm that with current technology.
Amazing work, Skyler! I am so impressed with your ability to pick out the most important and striking information and put it together into a concise, easy-to-read piece.
Some experts think that the melting and refreezing of ice caps can be contributing to the Earth’s fast rotation, which is why we should be more careful about our Earth.
