With a hairless body, a spiky white mane, and paralyzed back legs, Scooter has won the ugliest dog contest in the US. Scooter’s breed is a Chinese-Crested dog. He is currently only seven years old. Having his rear legs facing backwards is a huge challenge for him and his tongue hangs out at most times sideways.

This “ugliest dog contest” has been running for about 50 years, starting in 1970. The main purpose of this is to celebrate more of the unusual-looking dogs.

A man named Ross Smith thought it would be a fun way to raise money for a good cause – the point was to encourage everyone to adopt a pet with certain disabilities or challenges.

It might not sound glorious to be crowned the ugliest dog, but the contest isn’t as bad as it sounds, since it’s trying to celebrate instead of discriminate.

A really interesting fact is that since 2000, 11 winners have been Chinese-Crested dogs.
