Scooter Wins World’s Ugliest Dog Contest

By: Jeremy Liu

At the annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, California, this year’s winner was a three-year-old Chinese Crested-Dachshund mix named Scooter. His body is hairless, but he has a thin mane of spiky white hair on his head. One of the contest’s judges described Scooter like this: “In the cutest way possible, he kind of reminds me of a hairy hippopotamus.”

According to the report, Scooter weighs in at only 10 pounds and was rescued by his owners from a shelter. Despite his unusual looks, Scooter’s owners believe he has a beautiful

personality. They claim that he is always happy and loves to give kisses (newsforkids, 2023). Scooter learned to walk by balancing on his two front legs since he does not have mobility in his rear legs. He can even jump to get up on a curb or to climb steps.

At the contest, the judges were impressed by Scooter’s unique appearance. His long, thin tongue, crooked teeth, and hairless body made him stand out from the other contestants. After being declared the winner, Scooter was awarded a trophy and a prize of $1,500.

Scooter’s owners were delighted with his victory and believe that his unusual looks played a big part in his win. “He’s super excited, and so are we,” they said. “Scooter is a unique dog, and we love him just the way he is” (newsforkids, 2023).

The World’s Ugliest Dog Contest has been held for over 30 years and is a celebration of dogs that don’t fit the traditional mold of beauty. The contest also raises awareness of the importance of rescuing dogs from shelters and giving them a second chance at life.

In conclusion, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and while some may see Scooter as ugly, his owners and the judges of the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest see him as beautiful in his own unique way. Scooter’s win is a reminder that what matters most is not what’s on the outside, but the inside instead.
