On Friday evening, many Scotland fans arrived at Allianz Arena in Munich, where the opening match of the 2024 Euro Cup, a soccer competition that takes place in Europe every 4 years, was held. The fans were hopeful that the Scotland team would win against the Germany team.

All the hope that Scotland fans had quickly changed to disappointment while watching the match in the arena. By the end of the night, the score was a 5-1 defeat for Scotland. The match started with Florian Wirtz scoring a goal for Germany in the first 10 minutes of the game. Less than 10 minutes later, Jamal Musiala scored the second goal for Germany.

A penalty was awarded to team Germany after Scotland’s Porteous was sent off the pitch just before the half-time mark for a bad tackle. This left the Scotland team down to only ten players. Kai Havertz got the third goal for Germany by scoring the penalty that was awarded.

Twenty minutes after Niclas Fullkrug brought the score up to 4-0 for Germany, Scotland’s Scott McKenna’s free kick bounced off the head of Germany’s Antonio Rudiger and into the net for their first goal. This led to celebrations from Scotland fans.

However, with one final goal scored by Emre Can on the Germany side, Germany had the last say winning 5-1. It was Germany’s biggest win at the Euro cup ever.

Scotland went off to face Switzerland on Wednesday, while Germany took on Hungary the same day. Scotland fans are hoping that the Scotland team will do better in future games.
