You come home from a long day of completing music tests, your worst subject, running laps, and a whole lot of work, ready for a relaxing time. It’s like you might collapse because of the tiredness. You flop down on the couch with a bag of Cheetos and a can of soda, which is when you realize you have to complete a stack of homework assignments even more tedious than making bar graphs with Mrs. Mack all day. Would you rather go through this situation every day, or do you prefer to ban homework to have your own study time? I would opt to be able to have no homework any day.
Many people, including teachers, say homework can help students understand what you learn at school better. But is that really true? If you don’t know a concept, doing the homework won’t cause you to understand it all of a sudden. On the other hand, if you already mastered the assignment, why waste time doing it more? Either way, homework won’t have any benefit. There are many other ways of learning people prefer. Everyone learns differently, and children should be able to choose the way that works best for them. Some are more comfortable with tutoring classes, and some thrive if they read a textbook. Children can only study well with their own way of learning.
Kids need to know how to use their own time wisely. If they keep being told to complete an assignment, and then spend hours doing it, they aren’t really getting any kind of self-management skill. Knowing the best way for you to learn is a part of managing yourself.
Without this skill, when a student graduates, how can he/she know how to go through a day without someone telling you every action? It may start as small as a good way of learning, yet it can have a huge impact. Researchers have proven homework can reduce opportunities for pupils to develop involvement skills in everyday life.
Besides, doing homework isn’t exactly “soothing”. Children aren’t learning machines, we need rest. At school, we had a whole day of schoolwork and sending us home may seem like giving us a luxurious time on the beach, although really, we are just doing more school at home. Might as well keep us at school. Saves us the pain! Too much homework causes anxiety and of course, reduces time for leisure activities.
Homework and its annoying effects have become a burden in poor innocent children who were its victims. I hope schools and teachers can see this article and ban homework once and for all!!
