Roblox is a popular so-called “child-friendly gaming platform” where kids can play games that other people make or you can create your own. But it’s not only kids who make games. There are many inappropriate games on Roblox that anyone can play.
Some horror like Panik and Guesty have age guidelines, but others don’t. In Rainbow Friends you get brutally ripped apart if you get caught. In Escape Mr. Funny’s Workshop, there are multiple times when you get jump-scared if you make one wrong move. These games that I just listed don’t have age guidelines. They exemplify the current trend of turning family-friendly games into horror games without age guidelines, which can result in young children viewing horror games that they are not supposed to see at their age.
When I was playing Wilson’s Prison on Roblox, I found myself startled with jumpscares. One problem is the Roblox age guild line systems. A game marked “all ages” can have infrequent mild violence or light blood. On the other hand, 9+ can have frequent mild violence or heavy unrealistic blood. Finally, 13+ can have frequent moderate violence or light realistic blood. This is a big problem. A 4-year-old playing Roblox could see fake blood when playing “all ages” which could be very scary to a child.
Should Roblox be for kids? Yes and no. Some wander into the wrong games which are bad for them. But there is another side to this coin. Roblox has good games too like Tower Defense, BedWars, Big Paintball, and Build and Survive. These are all fun games without blood. In addition, some YouTubers help convince people to report small things like bullying and people saying bad words.
One big reason why kids run into these horror games is their parents. CookieSwirlC, a popular YouTuber, plays games that are kid-friendly. Not to mention, the name Roblox has become known as a program popular with children. Parents often think that the entire Roblox is kid friendly but it’s not. Roblox is an amazing program, but parents should certainly review any games a child plans on playing.
Another thing that I think is that moderators and admins should log on to a server and see if anything bad is going on.
