Simone Biles is finally attending her third Olympics after a two year break focusing on her mental health.
The reason? She said she had too much pressure and high expectations when she was considered the greatest of all time in gymnastics.
During this spring, she finally committed to training seriously after discussing it with her coaches. It wasn’t until late June that she decided to Saturday night’s U.S. Classic Competition. And when she stepped onto the podium and heard that she won and heard the audience cheer for her she realized that the noise she’d been grappling with for 732 days became quiet.
She felt comfortable and safe being in front of the crowd again. Being Simone Biles in front of the crowd again.
Biles had her confidence roaring as she got her victory in her first meet since the Tokyo Games. Her all-around score of 59.100 was five points better than her competitor Leann Wong.
She had the best score in three of four events, turning a tune-up meet for the U.S. Championships into one of the best she had ever done.
She then began on uneven bars which was close to a sign called the goat, a symbol for Simone, stating she is excellent. She wasn’t exactly perfect. She was stalling near the end of her routine.
But her score of 14.000 was already the third best in the competition. She was incredibly solid and steady on the beam, so she resulted in winning a bronze in Tokyo after a week of doubt. Her medal that she says is one of the best in her career.
Simone ended up in the “Final Five” having a bronze medal for her. She says all she’s doing is taking care of her body and her brain. But many fans think more may be on the way for her.
