Skateboarder Chloe Covell, a young Olympic hopeful, is only 14 years and 5 months old. If she succeeds in getting gold, she’ll be the youngest Australian ever to get gold in the Olympics, replacing Sandra Morgan, who competed in olympic swimming in 1956 and was also 14.
Olympic games are a international competition event where athletes all over the world come to the hosting country to compete for a medal. There are many sports such as swimming, baseball, and soccer. Olympic skateboarding was first introduced in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and was approved by the 2024 and 2028 Olympics, so it’s here to last.
Chloe Covell was born on February 8, 2010 in New South Whales, Australia. She went to her first competition outside of Australia when she was just 12 years old. She went to Japan’s XG Chiba competition where she got bronze. Later, at the same competition, she got silver. She is the first woman to have got 2 XG medals before the age of 13.
During a training session in Los Angeles, California, a few weeks before the Paris Olympics, she fractured her ring finger and little finger falling off her skateboard. Covell says she’s not going to let the injury lower her chances of getting gold in the paris olympics. She hasn’t yet completely recovered.
Covell and other Australian skaters, such as Shane O’ Niel and Haylee Powell, were introduced to the official Olympic skating park named “Urban Park” on Monday, July 21. Athletes will compete during the competition on July 28. They will each have 4 two-hour sessions to rehearse for their performance and get familiar with their surroundings.
