Last Friday night at the world championships, Sydney Mclaughlin broke her own world record again. When Sydney first started, she was faced with many competitors like Dalilah Muhammad, an elegant runner with many accomplishments. However, Sydney had no trouble catching up and smashing world records repeatedly leaving her rivals behind.
During the world championships Sydney came first, beating her world record with 50.68. Now, it seems that her only real challenge is the clock. She set another world record at the championships 27 days prior to her last one. What’s even crazier is that she still sees room for improvement. Dalilah, a rival and world record holder before Sydney, said that she was nervous about her body shape due to the injuries that she has had in the past.
Bol is another one of her rivals, however there is still a gap between her and Sydney. Femke Bol, another track runner rival to Sydney, is the 7th world record holder, after Dalilah and Sydney. When on the track, there is still a huge gap between the two when running. Sydney is ahead and when she is at the halfway point, there is a big lead from Sydney. As for the future, we are waiting to see when she will break another record.
