One week ago, Stephen Curry won his 4th NBA championship, signifying him as arguably a top ten player of all time. With his trademark 3-point shot, he has completely revolutionized the game.

Curry has many awards; he is a 2x MVP (Most valuable player), 1x Finals MVP, 4x NBA champion, 8x All-Star, 1x All Star MVP, and holds many other awards. However, the statistic that truly stands out is that he is 1st in all time three pointers made, with over 3000 made in his career so far. This further emphasizes how he has changed the game as the widely considered greatest shooter of all time.

Curry is a very unique player, with his height being the potentially the most surprising thing. There has always been a stereotype that only tall people can be good at basketball. The NBA lists him as 6 foot 2 inches, which is short compared to the average NBA player height of 6 foot 7 inches. However, he is still a future hall-of-famer and has been the centerpiece of the Warriors success for the past decade.

“You’ve never seen a guy his size dominate the league like this and just to put the weight of everything on his shoulders throughout a Finals series,” said Andre Igoudala, forward on the Golden State Warriors. “Normally you get a guy that’s a center, like an Hakeem [Olajuwon]. Or Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, those guys are 6’7” and taller.”

Before Curry, no one shot threes as often. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA’s all time leading scorer, has only made one three in his entire career. Curry, however, makes nearly 5 threes every single game.A Additionally, the average team attempts 32 threes per game, compared to the 18 attempted before Steph entered the NBA.

On the NBA TV show “First Take”, former NBA player Kendrick Perkins stated: “Steph Curry changed the game of basketball FOREVER. FOREVER! The fact that he changed the game forever, the fact that he made shots that would put people on the end of the bench before he arrived, that’s enough itself!”
