Stowaway tortoise runs away and is found on a train

By: Wesley Zhao

Imagine you are on the train and you suddenly see a tortoise entering the train by itself. Well, one little tortoise decided to explore the world on a train. Although the tortoise might have been happy, other people weren’t, since 4 trains were delayed as he squeezed into a train.

The tortoise was named Solomon, he was saved by engineers who accompanied him on the train and kept him safe. “He has been retrieved and is now on his way home,” South Western Railway (SWR) said. (BBC,2024)

Solomon’s escape from his owner in Surrey caused people to be more alert about their pets. They want to make sure that they don’t wander around the city like Solomon. “We also ask that our lineside neighbours ensure that their fencing is secure to prevent human, or animal incursions onto the track.” said a spokesperson from Network Rail. The turtle was lucky that it didn’t break its shell because trains take multiple football pitches to be able to stop. Humans are the only ones that needs a getaway from all the work that we have; pets have to take a break sometimes, too.
